You may have heard that the men’s college basketball 3 point line has been moved back 12 inches.  If you haven’t heard this you haven’t watched a minute of college basketball.  Every announcer of every game feels that it is his/her obligation to tell the fans about the new rule change.  I really can’t figure it out.  They say it 5 times per broadcast as if I was watching the game on mute up until that point.  If I had enough time it would make a killer montage like the guys on The Daily Show playing every clip where an announcer mentions the change.

I just read an article on SportsbyBrooks.com that has me speechless. I mean maybe it was a slow day and the author was bored out of his mind but come on…”Chaos to ensue”? You’ve got to be kidding me.  “Hope you like 58-56 basketball games.” Give me a break.  The three point line got moved back 12 inches. Chances are, the length of the computer screen you are reading this on is slightly greater than that distance.  Players that shoot threes regularly are going to be able to handle the switch with no problems.  Players that were ok 3 point shooters last year are going to figure out really quickly if they are 3 point shooters this year. Chances are, they have already figured it out since college teams have been practicing for 3 weeks now.  If they can’t shoot from the new distance, they aren’t going to do it in the games.  That’s how basketball works.

I’m not saying that percentages aren’t going to to down nationally, but if you think chaos will ensue or that scoring will go down dramatically you’ve got another thing coming.

There is an ongoing debate of which program is the greatest in the history of college basketball. There are three clear front runners and each fan base promotes their case of being the best each year. Kentucky, UCLA and North Carolina hold almost all of the NCAA basketball team records. UCLA has the most titles with 11, and Kentucky holds the most wins with 1,965. North Carolina has produced more great professional players than any other school, including the greatest player in the history of the NBA, Michael Jordan. After analyzing each team’s historical resume, it is this man’s opinion that one team stands head and shoulders above the other two. The Kentucky Wildcats are the definition of prestige, and stand alone as the greatest program of all time.

There is a good chance you haven’t even heard of my second favorite (out of three) college basketball postseason tournament. One reason is that it hasn’t really been publicized at all and another reason is because most people just groan when here that there is a third opportunity for mediocre teams to prolong their seasons. But the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) is here and hopefully its here to stay. Its put on by the Gazelle Group - the same group that brought us the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic (see: Gardner Webb over Kentucky) and the O’Reilly Autoparts Classic - and I’m going to give you 5 reasons why you should give it a shot.

        There is a simple formula for success that the respective coaches of the final 4 teams have mastered. Though each team has their own individual style and tempo, all of the teams have similar personnel. Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis, and UCLA each have a star point guard, several athletic wing players who can shoot from the perimeter, and a stable of big men that can rebound the ball and finish around the basket. What I Don’t Like About The NCAA Tournament

-What the NCAA has done with the Regional finals of the NCAA tournament is absolutely ridiculous. As seen in the photograph of the basketball setup at Ford Field in Detroit, MI above, the NCAA has elected to start placing the court in the middle of the football field longways. Although the NCAA has been using football domes for years now, this is the first year they have decided to use this setup. It is impossible for a majority of fans to watch the action on the court from a majority of the seats in the arena. From personal experience I can tell you that it was hard enough to watch the action from last years championship game and the 2004 Elite Eight games played in the Georgia Dome if you weren’t lucky enough to score a seat in the lower level.
